The Mosel Valley

Mosel wines are produced in three countries along the river Moselle: France, Luxembourg (the Musel) and Germany (the Mosel) ².

The Mosel is mainly famous for its wines made from the Riesling grape, but Elbling and Müller-Thurgau also contribute to the production, among others ¹. Mosel wines are mainly white and are made in some of the coldest climates used for commercial winemaking ².

The best producing vineyard sites are located along the Mosel river and its tributary where the heat from the sun can be maximized by reflection up from the water ¹.

The most famous wines coming from the Mosel wine region are those made from the Riesling grape. Riesling of Mosel vineyards requires a high level of acidity to balance the sugar in the grapes helping to create balanced, fruit-forward notes in the wines. A characteristic of the Mosel wine is its high acidity and clearly defined flavours ³.
