Founded by Jonathan Welford and Rob Hardy, The Cheshire Gentlemen was born from a shared belief: that every glass of wine tells a story—and the experience of tasting it should be as rich and rewarding as the wine itself.
Our ethos is simple: elevate the wine tasting experience by blending education with enjoyment. Whether you’re swirling a Pinot or pouring a Prosecco, we believe wine should be welcoming, not bewildering.
Jonathan and Rob are seasoned wine aficionados with a wealth of experience in the world of wines and spirits. Having studied with the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET), they bring a deep understanding of viticulture, tasting technique, and food pairing—plus the ability to explain it all in plain English, with a healthy dash of humour.

Jonathan Welford – Equal parts host, educator and wine sleuth. Jonathan brings years of experience and a deep passion for storytelling through wine. He’s especially skilled at helping clients discover hidden gems and surprising pairings.
Rob Hardy – Rob is a natural communicator and a thoughtful guide through the world of wine. With a background in education and events, he has a talent for making complex ideas accessible, and every tasting memorable.
Together, they bring a unique blend of warmth, wit and wine know-how.
