Pinot Meunier

General Description: Pinot Meunier is a black grape variety most famously associated with the production of Champagne, where it is one of the three primary grapes used alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The variety is known for its adaptability to cooler climates and its ability to bring freshness, fruitiness, and floral notes to the wines. Pinot Meunier’s name derives from the French word for “miller,” in reference to the flour-like dusty white appearance of its leaves, resembling a miller’s sprinkling of flour. While it plays a supporting role in Champagne, Pinot Meunier is also used to produce still red and rosé wines in other regions, showcasing its versatility.

Food Pairing Suggestions: The freshness and fruitiness of Pinot Meunier make it a versatile wine for pairing with a wide range of dishes. In its sparkling form, it pairs beautifully with appetisers, seafood, and light poultry dishes, as well as with creamy sauces and mild cheeses, benefiting from the wine’s acidity. Still red and rosé versions of Pinot Meunier can complement a variety of meals, from grilled fish and salads to light meat dishes and charcuterie, offering a balance of fruitiness and acidity that complements a broad palette of flavours.
